Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, filed paperwork in Manhattan federal court on Monday, Dec. 9 calling for the rapper’s rape accuser’s identity to be revealed, per reports
The musician has been accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl 24 years ago alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs in a civil lawsuit, which was originally filed in October
“Mr. Carter deserves to know the identity of the person who is effectively accusing him — in sensationalized, publicity-hunting fashion — of criminal conduct, demanding massive financial compensation, and tarnishing a reputation earned over decades,” Spiro wrote, per the Associated Press
Jay-Z’s lawyer is calling for the rapper’s rape accuser’s identity to be revealed or for the case to be dismissed, it’s been reported.
Per an amended complaint filed on Sunday, Dec. 8, the 55-year-old musician — whose legal name is Shawn Carter — was named and accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl 24 years ago alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs in a civil lawsuit, originally filed in October.
The woman in the suit alleged she was assaulted after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. She has been identified only as Jane Doe, per the complaint previously obtained by PEOPLE.
On Monday, Carter’s attorney, Alex Spiro, filed paperwork in court requesting that a judge require the woman to “reveal her identity if she wants to continue the lawsuit,” the Associated Press reported.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spiro said in the filing in Manhattan federal court that Jane Doe hadn’t “provided substantial evidence to justify her anonymity,” adding that her “vague assertions of potential harm fall far short of the stringent requirements.”
Spiro wrote, “Mr. Carter deserves to know the identity of the person who is effectively accusing him — in sensationalized, publicity-hunting fashion — of criminal conduct, demanding massive financial compensation, and tarnishing a reputation earned over decades,” according to the AP.
“He has never been accused of, let alone engaged in, any sexual misconduct,” Spiro added, per the news agency.
Per ABC News, the motion filed by Carter on Monday also accused Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, of conducting an “extortionate campaign” against him.

On Sunday, Carter called out Buzbee in a lengthy response to the amended filing on Roc Nation’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account. “What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!” the rapper wrote in part.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” he continued.
“You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” Carter’s post included. “I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the projects of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable.”

In the lawsuit, originally filed on Oct. 20, the unnamed woman (now in her mid-30s) alleged that she was raped by Combs and Carter while a still-unnamed female celebrity watched during a party in a N.Y.C. residence after the VMAs.
“Defendant Sean Combs, along with his longtime friend and collaborator Shawn Carter (a/k/a ‘JayZ’), drugged and raped a thirteen-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards,” the suit stated. “Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns assaulting the minor.”
Attorney Buzbee previously announced that he was representing more than 100 people accusing Combs of misconduct. The unnamed Jane Doe is seeking unspecified damages, PEOPLE reported on Sunday.
Combs last appeared in court for his criminal case on Oct. 10 and his trial is scheduled for May 2025.
PEOPLE previously reached out to a representative for Carter, but didn’t immediately hear back.
