W piątek Iga Świątek rozpoczęła walkę o trzeci z rzędu triumf w turnieju w Rzymie. Rywalką liderki rankingu była Anastazja Pawluczenkowa, wracająca po zdrowotnych problemach finalistka Rolanda Garrosa 2021. Polka nie miała dla moskwianki litości. Wygrała 6:0, 6:0, a jakieś emocje były tylko w samej końcówce pierwszego seta, szczególnie w ostatnim gemie.
W drugim gemie Pawluczenkowa oddała podanie podwójnym błędem. Moskwianka miała duże problemy na korcie. Nie mogła odnaleźć rytmu i popełniała dużo błędów. Świątek bardzo dobrze wykorzystywała geometrię kortu i rozrzucała rywalkę po narożnikach. Polka imponowała pracą nóg i w pełni kontrolowała przebieg wymian.
