Harry and Meghan posted a message on their website on January 9, after fires continued to burn across large areas in Palisades, Sunset, Eaton and elsewhere in Los Angeles this week.
“Over the past few days, wildfires in Southern California have spread across the region, causing severe damage to many families, homes, schools, medical centers… affecting tens of thousands of people from all walks of life,” Harry and Meghan began the article, noting that “a state of emergency has been declared.”

“If you would like to help, here are some resources and ideas,” the former royal couple added, providing a long list of organizations people can donate to, including World Central Kitchen by chef José Andrés (a frequent partner of Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation charity), CAL FIRE, and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, a nonprofit that supports local firefighters.
As well-known animal lovers, Prince Harry and his wife have also teamed up with the Animal Veterinary Fund and Compton Cowboys, to help care for animals affected by the fires.

Meghan and Harry also mentioned Airbnb and 211LA, which provide free accommodation for those displaced by the wildfires; Baby2Baby and All Power Books, non-profits that distribute essential goods.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also urged people to open their homes to evacuees if they can. “If you have friends, family or pets who are being evacuated and you can provide them with a safe place to stay in your home, please do so,” the Sussexes wrote. “And remember to check on any disabled or elderly neighbours to see if they need help evacuating.”

They also pointed to other ways people can help amid this crisis: “Some families and residents have lost everything. Please consider donating clothes, toys, children’s clothing and other essentials.”
The Sussexes ended their message by saying the American Red Cross “is on the scene assisting those affected.”

Harry and Meghan live about 90 miles north of Los Angeles, in the Montecito area of Santa Barbara. The couple moved into a nearly $15 million mansion in this upscale neighborhood shortly after stepping down from the royal family in 2020. However, their home could be at risk if the Palisades Fire continues to burn out of control
