The Chiefs’ regular season success — they tied the Detroit Lions for the NFL’s best record — warranted a bye to the divisional round, with Brittany set to give birth during the wild-card round this coming weekend. The timing really couldn’t be better, and that fits with the narrative that the Chiefs have had more good fortune this season than anyone else in football — Kansas City finished a perfect 11-0 in games decided by eight points or fewer.

By the time Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs return to the field in two weeks’ time, he will have become a father for the third time as he pursues his third successive Super Bowl win, an accomplishment that the NFL has never seen before.
