Putintseva overcame a set down to upset Swiatek of Poland, winning 3-6 6-1 6-2 and snapping her 21-match winning run.
“It feels really, really great,” Putintseva said ahead of her match against Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, the 13th seed in the round of 16.
“I was on fire because I could feel it on the court. I was attempting to use my shots to amuse you more and more.”
Ons Jabeur, a two-time finalist from Tunisia, lost to Elena Svitolina of Ukraine on Saturday, 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in another match.
The 2022 champion Elena Rybakina triumphed over Caroline Wozniacki, the former world number one from Denmark, 6-0 6-1.
Despite her prowess on clay and hard courts, Swiatek is the most dominant player on the WTA Tour and has yet to adjust to the Wimbledon grass.
