The Kansas City Chiefs had their sights set on clinching the top seed in the AFC as they entered their Week 17 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day. With a win, they would solidify their position at the top of the conference, and Patrick Mahomes and company delivered in dominant fashion. The Chiefs secured a 29-10 victory, improving to 15-1 on the season with just one week remaining.
As the Chiefs now stand head and shoulders above the competition in the AFC, their nearest rival, the Buffalo Bills, currently hold a 12-3 record – a gap too large for Buffalo to close as Kansas City has already locked up the top spot. This victory not only gave the Chiefs their 15th win but also saw Mahomes set another impressive milestone.
Extaordinary milestones
Mahomes threw his 245th career touchdown pass during the game, surpassing Peyton Manning’s record for the most touchdowns thrown in the first eight seasons of a career.
Manning previously held the record with 244 touchdowns, but Mahomes’ achievement is all the more significant considering he wasn’t even the starting quarterback in his rookie season. The milestone is a testament to Mahomes’ incredible consistency and skill since taking the helm in Kansas City.
But it wasn’t just Mahomes who made history on Christmas Day. Tight end Travis Kelce also etched his name into the Chiefs’ record books by hauling in his 77th career receiving touchdown for the franchise
