All week, NFL fans have been on Patrick Mahomes watch this week as the three-time Super Bowl champ was in danger of missing the Kansas City Chiefs’ clash against the Houston Texans with an ankle sprain.

With the Chiefs playing two games in quick succession, there was a thought that Mahomes, despite his odd powers of recovery, might not be fit in time to take the field.

But his ankle has responded well to treatment, and in fact, was a full participant at the Chiefs’ first practice of the week, so that was a big step in the right direction regarding his playing status for the Texans clash.

And now head coach Andy Reid has dropped another big update on his star quarterback.

“He worked out this week full and will most likely end up playing,” Reid said. “We’ll just see how things work out.”

So of course, No. 15 will suit up and with the Chiefs in a great position to clinch the AFC’s No. 1 seed, there was a thought of Kansas City playing the cautious game with Mahomes.

Let him sit against the Texans, and be good to go for the Pittsburgh Steelers a mere few days later before a long rest until the final game of the season.

But it appears Mahomes will be taking his place against Houston, and one thing that DeMeco Ryans’ team does well is rush the passer. So Mahomes’ ankle better be 100 percent.

While Reid stated that the Chiefs will see how things work out, if Mahomes has practiced all week, then it is nearly a guarantee that he will play, which in truth, we knew all along.
